FAQ
Questions, answered.
The ring, the Formula, your data and the founding list, in plain English. Where something isn't settled yet, we say so.
Short answers to common questions. Some details are still being settled. Where that's the case, we'll share them before launch. Anything we missed? Write to info@merering.com.
The ring
What does the Mere Ring measure?
Every night it reads the shape of your pulse: the rise, peak, notch and echo of each beat. It also tracks heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen and sleep. Over your first 14 nights it learns your normal. After that, it reads every night against it.
How does it read your pulse?
Green, red and infrared light shines into your finger. Sensors read how that light changes as blood moves with each beat. The method is called photoplethysmography, or PPG (Allen, 2007), and researchers see potential in it well beyond heart rate (Charlton et al., 2023).
What is the ECG sensor for?
Alongside its light sensors, the ring has an ECG sensor. We'll explain how the app uses it before launch. It does not detect or monitor any condition.
How long does the battery last?
12 to 15 days on a charge, depending on your settings and use. It charges in a magnetic case in about 20 to 80 minutes, and the case carries its own battery.
Can I wear it in water?
The ring is rated IP68. Under the international IP Code, that means it is dust-tight and protected against continuous immersion in water. The test conditions are set for each product, and must be tougher than the IPX7 test of 1 meter for 30 minutes (International Electrotechnical Commission, 2013). Before launch, we'll publish the depth and time Mere is tested to, with guidance for swimming and showers. Until then, plan to take it off for saunas, hot tubs, long hot baths, diving and harsh cleaning chemicals.
What is it made of?
The outer shell is titanium alloy, over a smooth inner liner. It weighs 2.6 to 2.8 grams and is about 8 mm wide and 2.8 mm thin. It comes in three finishes: rose gold-tone, silver-tone and black. Like any titanium, it picks up fine scratches with everyday wear.
What sizes will there be?
Seven sizes, about 16.5 to 22.3 mm inside. Smart-ring sizes run differently from jewelry sizes, so use the Mere sizer rather than a ring you already own. Aim for snug: a loose ring lets light slip past the sensors. Sizes can't be adjusted later.
When should I wear it?
Wear it to sleep, since Mere reads you at night. The app also has a 60-second Pulse Reading.
The Formula
What is the Mere Formula?
An optional personal supplement: two pods a day, a Day pod with breakfast and a Night pod after dinner. It will be built from about 30 nights of ring data, your check-ins and any labs you add, then rebuilt every 30 days. It's still in development and launches after the ring.
Do I need the Formula to use the ring?
No. The Formula is optional. The ring and its readings work on their own.
Why two pods?
Timing. Each ingredient is meant to go with the meal that suits it, and nothing will be generically packed. For example, any vitamin D3 or K2 will go in the Day pod, to take with breakfast. Both are fat-soluble, so a breakfast with some fat in it helps. One study found vitamin D3 was absorbed better when taken with a meal containing fat than with a fat-free one (Dawson-Hughes et al., 2015).
What will be in it?
That depends on you, and it will change as you do. Every ingredient, form and dose will be named. Before each box ships, you'll see what changed, and why.
How will you handle upper limits?
Where a vitamin or mineral has a Tolerable Upper Intake Level (the daily maximum set by the US National Academies), the amount in both pods plus any supplements you tell us you take will stay below it. For some nutrients, that limit also includes food, so the Formula will leave room for what you eat.

The app & your data
What does the app show?
It shows your pattern in plain English. There are nine: Steady, Wired, Slow start, Drained, Tense, Heavy, Overloaded, Stiff and Sensitive. You also get a biological age estimate, a 60-second Pulse Reading, a circle for family, and Ask Mere.
What is the free Reading?
Eight questions and an optional tongue photo. Together they suggest your pattern. The Reading isn't live yet, and it opens to the founding list before anyone else.
Is biological age a medical measurement?
No. It's a wellness estimate, not a medical test. We'll explain how it's calculated before launch.
How does the circle work?
You can invite family members 18 and over into your circle. Each person chooses what they share.
Where will my health data be stored?
We're building Mere so member health data is stored in the US. The free Reading, the app and the Formula will each come with their own privacy notice. Each will say where your data is stored and processed, and who can access it, and will ask for your explicit consent before collecting any health information.
What does this website collect today?
When you join the founding list, we keep your email address, your agreement to receive launch updates, which form you used and when. To stop spam, the form also turns your IP address into a short-lived scrambled code, used only to count sign-up attempts over 10 minutes. We never store the address itself, and the code is never kept with your email. Our hosting providers may keep standard server logs. This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics, ad pixels or third-party scripts. Apart from us, only the cloud hosting and database providers that run the site handle your email. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.

Health & safety
Is Mere a medical device?
No. Mere is a wellness product. It shows patterns and trends against your own normal. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. The ring notices. Your doctor decides.
Are the patterns diagnoses?
No. The nine patterns are wellness reflections, drawn from a modern nine-type body constitution framework with roots in traditional wisdom. They put how you've been in plain English. They don't name or detect any condition.
How accurate are the readings?
Before launch, we'll share how Mere's readings are tested. Mere is a wellness product, not a medical instrument.
What if a reading worries me?
Talk to your doctor. Mere shows how your readings compare with your own normal. It can't tell you what a change means. A healthcare professional can. Mere is not for emergencies. If you need urgent help, call 911.
Can I take the Formula if I'm pregnant, nursing or on medication?
Ask your doctor first.
Can I wear the ring with an implanted medical device?
We'll share full wear and safety guidance before launch. Until then, if you have an implanted medical device, check with your doctor before wearing any smart ring.
Who is Mere for?
Mere is made for adults, 18 and over.
