Setup and care

Charging, pairing, wearing and caring for your Mere Ring.

The Mere Ring and app are in development. What follows is our current plan and may change before launch.

Getting started

  • Wake it. Before you first wear it, set the ring in its charging case. That wakes it up.
  • Pair it. Keep the ring charging and near your phone, open the Mere app and pair from there. Don’t pair from your phone’s Bluetooth settings: that can hold the connection and keep the app from finding your ring.
  • Let it sync. Leave the app open until the first sync finishes.

Charging

  • Set it in the case. Magnets line up the two contacts on the inside of the ring with the case’s own.
  • About 20 to 80 minutes to a full charge.
  • 12 to 15 days on a charge, depending on your settings and use. The more often the ring takes readings, the more battery it uses.
  • Top up anywhere. The case carries its own battery, so you can charge away from a plug.

Wearing it

  • Snug, not tight. It should turn with a little effort. A loose ring lets light slip past the sensors.
  • Wear it to bed. Mere reads you best at night, when your hand is still.
  • Find your size first. Smart-ring sizes run differently from jewelry sizes, so use the sizer in the Mere app rather than a ring you already own. Sizes can’t be adjusted later.

The 30-second ECG sensor

The raised plate across the outside of the ring is the ECG electrode. When the Mere app asks, rest a fingertip of your other hand on the plate and stay still for about 30 seconds, until the app says it’s done. Mere records the waveform. It does not interpret your heart rhythm or look for any condition.

Water, heat and cleaning

  • Rated IP68 for dust and water. Wear it to wash your hands, shower and work out.
  • Take it off for saunas, hot tubs, long hot baths, diving and harsh cleaning chemicals.
  • Clean it with lukewarm water and a little mild soap, then dry it with a soft cloth.
  • Expect fine scratches. Like any titanium, the shell picks them up with everyday wear.

Updates

Before an update starts, have the ring at least half charged, keep it next to your phone, and leave the Mere app open until it finishes.

If it feels stuck

Fingers swell with heat, salt or a long day. Don’t force the ring off. Raise your hand, cool it and wait for the swelling to settle. If it still won’t come off, get help from a jeweler or a doctor.
